From the saga: "Harðar saga og Hólmverja (24) Hann bjó á Stykkisvelli í Brynjudal. (25) Þórður köttur fór með honum en er þeir komu í dalinn sáu þeir að fé var rekið norður um fell er stendur á milli Brynjudals og Botns. (25) Og þegar er sár Geirs voru bundin sté Hörður á skip með tólfta mann og fór þegar inn til Brynjudals og kveðst enn vilja reyna Kötlu. (27) Hann var í Brynjudal hina fyrstu nótt og þó eigi að bæjum. (39) Hún svarar: „Eg mun fá þér veturvist og hringinn Sótanaut, Helgu jarlsdóttur og mikið fé annað ef þú drepur Ref í Brynjudal.“Bárðar saga Snæfellsáss (9) Áttu þeir síðan mörg skipti saman og höfðu löngum samvistir saman í Brynjudal í helli þeim er Bárðarhellir er kallaður síðan og haft hafa þeir leika hjá Eiríki í Skjaldbreið á Eiríksstöðum."
