📖 Story
Two children from nearby Hraunsás farm crossed a natural stone arch over the Hvítá river on their way to church. The bridge collapsed and both drowned. Their grief-stricken mother had the bridge destroyed so no other children would die there. Today the turquoise water surges violently through the rocky channel where the bridge once stood. Barnafoss is next to Hraunfossar and visited together.
