The Viking Village at Stokksnes was constructed as a movie set for a historical production near Vestrahorn Mountain in Southeast Iceland. Although the film project was never completed, the structures remained and later became a popular photography destination. Today the site is maintained as part of the Stokksnes visitor area and attracts travelers exploring the Ring Road.
The Viking Village Movie Set on the Stokksnes Peninsula is one of Iceland’s most cinematic photography stops along the Ring Road. Built as part of a historical film production near Vestrahorn Mountain, the wooden Viking-style buildings remain standing even though the movie was never completed. Located within the Stokksnes visitor area near Höfn, the site offers dramatic views of black sand dunes, rugged coastline, and one of Iceland’s most photogenic mountains. The combination of traditional Nordic-style structures and wild natural surroundings creates a unique atmosphere rarely found elsewhere in Iceland. Visitors often explore the Viking Village together with nearby Vestrahorn viewpoints and coastal walking areas. Because the location is on private land, access requires a small entrance fee paid at the Viking Café entrance gate.
