歴史と背景
Veiðivötn has been a significant site in Iceland's landscape. Throughout the years, this location has played an important role in Icelandic culture and natural history.
Veiðivötn is a Highland lake district made up of about 50 lakes and crater formations across an area roughly 20 kilometres long and 5 kilometres wide. Black volcanic sand, clear water and young volcanic landforms give the area a distinctive appearance. Access is seasonal by Highland roads, so road and weather conditions should be checked before travelling.

物語と民話
Veiðivötn — 'Fishing Lakes' — is a remote Highland lake system in the interior of Iceland, created by volcanic craters, fissures and lava dams from the Bárðarbunga volcanic system. The lakes are a series of small, shallow water bodies in vivid blues and greens, surrounded by volcanic ridges and highland desert. The area is famous for Arctic char fishing — it has been a Highland fishing destination for Icelandic anglers for generations. Access is via the F-road network and requires a 4WD vehicle. The colours of the lakes, shifting from turquoise to steel blue, are unlike any other lake system in Iceland.
