The **Inside the Volcano** operator lowers participants about **120 m** using specialised equipment; self-guided access to the chamber is not permitted. The tour involves a **3 km walk in each direction**, normally around **45–50 minutes each way**, over exposed lava terrain. The operator lists dates from **5 May to 30 October** and total tour time of about four hours for self-drivers meeting locally, or five to six hours including transfers.
