Gamla Laugin — 'the Old Pool' — was first built as a formal bathing area in 1891, making it Iceland's oldest swimming spot. The pool fell into disuse for many decades before being restored and reopened in 2014. Unlike the Blue Lagoon, the Secret Lagoon retains a simple, undeveloped character, surrounded by small geysers, steaming vents and a shallow stream of natural hot water.
