The current church, an architectural gem, was constructed from concrete between 1938 and 1939 and officially consecrated on September 17, 1939. Its design was a collaborative effort, with the State Architect's office providing the main drawings for the structure. However, the interior of Núpskirkja bears the unique imprint of Séra Sigtryggur Guðlaugsson, the local priest at Núpur. He personally designed all the interior fittings, ensuring a cohesive and meaningful aesthetic. The exquisite carved symbols and lettering found on the pulpit, altar rail (grátum), and church benches were the skilled handiwork of Guðmundur Jónsson, a renowned carver from Mosdal in Önundarfjörður. The church's vibrant paintings and illustrations were completed by Gréta and Jón Björnsson, further enriching its artistic appeal. Séra Sigtryggur Guðlaugsson's legacy extends beyond the church; he also established a youth school at Núpur in the early 20th century and developed the beautiful Skrúði garden, which honors him and his wife, Hjaltlína Guðjónsdóttir.
