について

Neskaupstaður & Norðfjörðurについて

Iceland's easternmost town, set in Norðfjörður beneath steep mountains with museums, waterfront history and strong hiking access.

Neskaupstaður is the largest town in the Eastfjords region, sitting at the end of Norðfjörður (North Fjord).

背景

歴史と背景

Neskaupstaður's development is closely tied to fishing and its isolated position in Norðfjörður. The town first gained a road connection in 1949 via Oddsskarð, although that route was only seasonally reliable. The opening of Norðfjarðargöng in 2017 created a safer year-round road connection toward Eskifjörður.

Neskaupstaður sits at the end of Norðfjörður and is the easternmost town in Iceland. Steep mountains frame the fjord and provide extensive opportunities for hiking and other outdoor activities. The town has a long fishing tradition, a lively cultural scene and Safnahúsið, where natural history, maritime heritage and works by painter Tryggvi Ólafsson are presented under one roof. The waterfront retains old piers and gives the town a strong connection to the sea. Neskaupstaður is also known for Eistnaflug, its annual metal and punk music festival.

民話

物語と民話

The experience of Neskaupstaður is inseparable from Norðfjörður: a fishing town at the head of a dramatic fjord where old piers, museums, mountain routes and a strong music culture sit within the same compact community.
