Magnúsarfoss also has a direct link with Skaftafell's local energy history. A small hydroelectric station was built below the waterfall in 1925 to supply the farms at Bölti and Sel; the restored station is now accessible on a short walking route and can be combined with a Svartifoss or Sel hike.
