Klifbrekkufossar is a beautiful cascade of five waterfalls in the remote Mjóifjörður fjord of East Iceland. The falls drop in a staircase formation from the highland plateau above, each tier slightly different in character — some wide and fan-shaped, others narrow and forceful. The total drop is around 100 metres across the whole cascade. Mjóifjörður is one of East Iceland's more remote fjords; reaching Klifbrekkufossar requires driving a winding gravel road deep into the fjord. The reward is a waterfall in almost complete solitude, surrounded by dramatic fjord scenery. A true off-the-beaten-path discovery for those exploring East Iceland.
