Hvalfjörður（ホエールフィヨルド）は、レイキャビクのすぐ北に広がる全長30kmのフィヨルドで、かつてここに多数のクジラが生息していたことからその名がつきました。第二次世界大戦中は連合国の主要な海軍基地および船団の中継地として使われました。フィヨルドを一周する景観ドライブ（47号線）は約1時間半かかり、迫力あるGlymur滝への登山口、海岸に残る第二次世界大戦時のタンカーの残骸、旧捕鯨基地、そしてSaurbærの静かな教会などを通過します。フィヨルド下を通る海底トンネル（1998年開通）を使えば景観ドライブをスキップすることもできます。

Hvalfjörður (Whale Fjord) is a 30 km long fjord just north of Reykjavík, named for the large numbers of whales once found here. During WWII it was a major Allied naval base and convoy staging point. The scenic drive around the fjord (Road 47) takes about 1.5 hours and passes the dramatic Glymur waterfall trailhead, a WWII oil tanker hulk on the shore, an old whaling station and the peaceful church at Saurbær. The undersea tunnel beneath the fjord (opened 1998) bypasses the scenic drive.
