Djáknadys Hamarsfirði

Djáknadys is a protected historic and folklore site on the northern side of Hamarsfjörður, directly accessible from the Ring Road. Local tradition says that the priest of Háls and the deacon of Hamar met here, fought to the death and were buried at the spot. For generations, first-time travellers were told to place stones on the mound for good luck and to avoid losing their way. Because the mound is protected today, visitors should not add stones, remove stones or otherwise disturb the site.
