The University of Iceland’s Main Building is one of the key institutional works of architect Guðjón Samúelsson. Designed as part of the university campus plan in the late 1930s, the building uses a formal, symmetrical composition with a projecting central entrance and regular window bays. It was among Samúelsson’s final major projects and remains a defining building on the campus.
